Engineers have established themselves as major problem solvers in the global community. There strides have contributed positively to the development of different sectors of the industrial and domestic world. It is for this reason that a day in the year has been separated to celebrate and educate the populace of the contributions and significance of the engineering profession in our growing world.
The Oilserv Group commemorated this year’s Engineering day on Friday, 3rd March, 2023 with a couple of edutaining activities spearheaded by Frazimex Engineering Limited, the engineering arm of the Oilserv Group. A webinar that expounded the theme of the day “Engineering Innovation for a More Resilient World!” was held across the group using Microsoft Teams meeting platform.
After the opening remarks of the day were given by Engr. Chuka Eze, Managing Director of Frazimex Engineering Limited, we had six speakers who spoke creatively on the theme of the day.
The six speakers comprising male and female engineers shared personal stories of how engineering innovation had helped in their career growth and had spurred them to greater inventive thinking. Their brief but enlightening tales also featured the roles they have played in championing engineering innovation to solve dynamic problems within the Oilserv Group. Some of these innovations made Oilserv Group the indigenous pace setters in technologies like Automatic Ultrasonic Testing (AUT), Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD), Horizontal Thrust Boring (HTB) and Cofferdam construction.
The celebration of the day also had the different disciplines of Frazimex compete healthily as a team for handsome vouchers by participating in a quiz session that featured interesting STEM-related questions. There were rewards for the top three disciplines and also prizes for the about ten well-wishers from other sister companies in the group who successfully answered the trivia questions that were dished out to them.
We also had encouraging words from the Group Chief Operating Officer, Lester Clark and the Group Head of Human Resources/Corporate Communications, Ikechukwu Ossi. Above all, they emphasized the importance of collaboration and ingenuity in the engineering profession.
Finally, the celebration of the day ended with a photograph session of all the disciplines in Frazimex; including engineers and associate engineers from across the group. Across the group, our staff were dressed in t-shirts, jeans and sneakers and there was also a beautiful cake to add glamour to the occasion. There were also light refreshments available for everyone to have a piece.
