Enhancing Operational Efficiency: Insights from GCEO’s Site Inspection at Camp Bravo and DPI Site

On Saturday, March 16, 2024, the Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. (Dr.) Emeka Okwuosa, CON, accompanied by a delegation including the Managing Director of Oilserv, the AKK Project Manager, and the AKK Security Manager, arrived at camp Bravo around 15:45 hrs for a comprehensive site inspection. They were warmly received by the Deputy Project Manager of Bravo and the team.

The visit commenced with an induction by the Health, Safety, and Environment Coordinator, followed by a tour of the camp facilities. At the Command-and-Control Center, the GCEO scrutinized the communication and CCTV monitoring systems. Noting several malfunctioning cameras, he promptly requested immediate repairs and remediation.

Inspecting the office spaces and living accommodation rooms, the GCEO expressed satisfaction with the arrangements. His inspection extended to the camp medical facility, where he commended the resident medical staff for the well-organized setup.

A visit to the equipment laydown area and maintenance workshop revealed concerns about the condition of a flatbed truck tire used for transporting bentonite. Expressing dismay, the Chairman stressed the necessity for meticulous maintenance protocols.

Outside the camp perimeter, particular attention was paid to the Concrete Wall Coating (CWC) setup. Satisfied with the progress, the Chairman nevertheless urged the team to explore avenues for streamlining the CWC process for future applications.

On the same day, the Chairman held a meeting with the owner personnel (PMC/PMT) at the camp. He reassured them of ongoing management support and pledged immediate action to address the recent unfortunate situation where operations were halted for 9 days due to the unavailability of AGO.

Wrapping up the visit at Camp Bravo, the GCEO’s emphasis on maintenance diligence and process improvement underscores a commitment to operational excellence and efficiency within the project scope.

At the DPI site, the Chairman was received, and inducted. Following the induction, the Chairman engaged with the HSE officer to ensure understanding of the criteria for selecting Muster points along the ROW or within facilities. Emphasizing the importance of accessibility and efficient evacuation during emergencies, he underscored the significance of strategic Muster point placement.

The purpose of the Chairman’s visit was to assess the progress at DPI, understand prevailing concerns, and address challenges hindering the commencement of micro tunneling operations.

During his inspection, the Chairman evaluated ongoing work including launch shaft construction, ramp development, and assembly of the micro tunneling system. He also examined DPI welded pipeline strings prepared for leak testing, posing inquiries to site supervisors Mr. Volker Wilhelm and AKK PM, as well as Alpha Spread DPM.

A feedback session ensued, led by the Chairman, to discuss challenges and propose solutions for site issues. The Chairman pledged increased management oversight to ensure timely resolution of impediments to DPI construction and micro tunneling commencement.
