Long before weld arcs illuminated the night sky and heavy machinery advanced across demanding terrain, the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline Project called for more than steel and technology; it required endurance, conviction, and an unwavering confidence in Nigeria’s capacity to deliver for itself. Before a single molecule of gas can energize homes, industries, and the wider economy, there must be trust in execution, discipline in process, and an uncompromising commitment to safety and quality. On the AKK project, that commitment has been demonstrated not through rhetoric, but through 31 million man-hours of focused, resilient effort, each hour reflecting people, precision, and purpose. Today, this collective resolve has been firmly translated into achievement, culminating in the full mechanical completion of Mainline Welding and Related Works on Segment 1 of the AKK Gas Pipeline Project, delivered by Oilserv Limited in collaboration with NNPC Limited.
This milestone represents far more than a numerical achievement. It is the physical manifestation of resilience under pressure, technical excellence amid complexity, and unwavering focus in the face of multifaceted challenges. It is a story of people, purpose, and progress, written one weld, one trench, and one safe man-hour at a time.
The landmark achievement was formally celebrated during a high-level site visit by the Honorable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo; the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, Mr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari; the Executive Vice President, Gas, Power and New Energy, Mr. Olalekan Ogunleye; the Managing Director of NGIC, Mr. Ibrahim Audu; and members of the NNPC leadership team. They were received on-site by Oilserv’s project leadership, led by Engr. Gbola Adeniyi, alongside key stakeholders.

Commending the pace and quality of work delivered, the Honorable Minister described the AKK Pipeline as a strategic national asset, noting that upon completion, it will unlock economic opportunities, boost electricity generation, deepen domestic gas utilization, and accelerate Nigeria’s industrialization agenda.

Speaking during the visit, the GCEO of NNPC Limited expressed strong satisfaction with Oilserv’s delivery performance, praising the resilience, professionalism, and technical competence demonstrated by the project team despite operational, logistical, and environmental challenges. He emphasized that the AKK Pipeline is not merely an infrastructure project, but a cornerstone of Nigeria’s future economic vitality.

“This project is far more than a pipeline; it is the backbone of our future economic growth,” he stated. “Upon completion, it will unlock unprecedented opportunities, power our industries, energies our communities, and usher Nigeria into a new era of energy security. I commend the Oilserv team whose Thirty-One Million Man-Hours are translating vision into a tangible national legacy. This project reflects our deliberate pivot toward sustainable prosperity, with gas as our transition fuel and industrial resurgence as our destination.”
In his remarks, the Chairman and Group Chief Executive Officer of Oilserv Group, Engr. (Dr.) Emeka Okwuosa, CON, underscored that the milestone is a testament to Oilserv’s unwavering commitment to excellence, integrity, and delivery, hallmarks that have defined the company’s trajectory as a leading indigenous EPC player.

“Against all odds, we remain focused on our mandate,” Dr. Okwuosa stated. “While there have been distractions arising from some subcontractors and associated cohorts, Oilserv’s ethos is anchored on resilience, discipline, and performance. We will not be distracted. This achievement once again demonstrates that Nigerian companies possess the capacity to deliver world-class infrastructure projects that underpin national development and energy security.”

He further acknowledged the exemplary leadership of Engr. Gbola Adeniyi, the dedication of project teams, and the contributions of subcontractors including Bradama, OMSC, and SCNL, as well as the unwavering support of Oilserv’s corporate services teams and the NNPC AKK Project Management Team (PMT). According to him, the milestone reflects the power of disciplined collaboration and professionalism on a project of profound national importance.

Beyond the headline achievement of mechanical completion, the AKK project has also recorded significant technical feats, notably the successful River Niger crossing using Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD), a complex engineering operation that further underscores the project’s technical depth and execution capability. With mainline welding completed, stakeholders remain optimistic about achieving the revised project completion target of Q1 2026.
The AKK Gas Pipeline Project remains one of Nigeria’s most ambitious and transformative energy infrastructure initiatives, designed to enhance domestic gas supply, catalyze industrial growth, and strengthen the nation’s energy architecture. Oilserv’s delivery of this milestone, anchored on 31 million safe man-hours, reaffirms the critical role of indigenous capacity in driving Nigeria’s energy transition and long-term economic prosperity.

In steel, sweat, and shared purpose, Oilserv has once again demonstrated that when vision meets execution, national progress becomes inevitable.
