Nigeria has the largest gas reserves in Africa but still lacks critical gas infrastructure and continues to fall short of Domestic Gas Supply obligations. The development of critical gas pipeline infrastructure remains pivotal to Nigeria’s industrialization and economic empowerment.
As part of Nigeria’s resolve to become a major international player in the international gas market as well as to lay a solid framework for gas infrastructure expansion within the domestic market, the Nigerian Government instituted the Gas Master Plan – a guide for the commercial exploitation and management of Nigeria’s Gas sector.
Bringing the Nigerian Gas Master Plan to bear, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in May 2012 awarded the contract for the construction of the East-West Gas Transmission Pipeline popularly called the OB3 Gas Pipeline Project to two indigenous companies.
The 130km by 48’’ Pipeline, which is the biggest ever built in Nigeria, will transmit gas from the East-West to meet the demand for power generation and another industrial purposes.
Oilserv won the bid which was adjudged to be ‘’exhaustively competitive’’ for the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation, and Commissioning of the 67km Lot B part of the project which begins from the intermediate Pigging station (IPS) at Umukwata in Delta State and terminates at the Oben Node in Edo State. This project has been commissioned.
Following the successful completion and on-time delivery of the first phase Gas Master plan project (OB3), Oilserv was awarded the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano Gas pipeline project popularly called the AKK Project. it entails the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation, Testing, and Commissioning of the first segment of the 614 km x 40-Inch Gas pipeline, which is from Ajaokuta to mid-way between Abuja and Kaduna. The second segment was awarded to another company. AKK is the backbone of the Nigerian Gas Master Plan.
The optimism and hope that this development represents is a clear elixir that is surely needed by the entire nation at this time.
